God has called us through Jesus Christ, to be a community of faith, inspired by the Holy Spirit, to reach out to others with the Good News that God loves and forgives all people. We joyfully invite and welcome all people to join with us in lives of faith, lived victoriously in community, and in love and service to God and our neighbors.

St. Stephen's has always made an attempt to lend a helping hand in the surrounding community. This has been made possible by charity organizations, benefit programs, the youth group and various members of the church. This has made our church an important part of this community. We hope to continue being a large a part of the community and to do more to help those around us.

Meet Our Pastors!

Some history...

St. Stephen's Church Lutheran Church began worshipping at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel in October 1951, with 4 adults and 3 children. In 1952, Seminarian David W. Burt was appointed Mission Developer with 48 members. In April 1953, the Rev. Burt was called as St. Stephen's first Pastor. During his tenure, the first building was built and the Congregation increased to 414 people. In December 1959, St. Stephen's became self-supporting. Pastor Burt resigned to accept another call in 1960.

The Rev. John A. Dietterle was called as St. Stephen's 2nd Pastor in 1961. He guided the Congregation through a variety of building phases and congregational growth. After 28 years of faithful service Pastor Dietterle retired in 1989. Pastor served as Pastor Emeritus until his death on October 19, 1997.

The Rev. E. Carl Zimmerman was called as Pastor in 1990 and served St. Stephen's faithfully until accepting a call in California in 1994.

In early 1995, Rev. John P. Dougherty, current Pastor,
accepted a call to become Pastor of St. Stephens. Under the enthusiasm of Pastor Dougherty, and with the help of many equally diligent members, St. Stephen's has continued to flourish, extending itself with a helping hand into the surrounding communities, and organizations in need.

In 2004, Pastor Frank joined us as an Assistant Pastor. His involvement with the youth was very strong. Pastor Frank left us in 2006 to accept a Pastors position at Trinity Lutheran Church.

In 2008, Pastor Peggy joined Pastor John as an Assistant Pastor. She has already begun helping to get new activities and groups off the ground.
